What is childhood emotional respect?

When someone shows you respect, you feel appreciated and acknowledged. You know your essential worthiness is recognized.”

The same counts for respect from parents for their children: “When your mother or father shows you respect you feel appreciated and acknowledged. You know your essential worthiness is recognized”. In healthy parental relationships children show respect for their parents, and parents show respect for their children. And emotionally healthy parents teach their children to respect and value themselves. Emotionally healthy parents help their children by recognizing their inner experience and by recognizing the way they perceive the world and what happens to them. Emotionally healthy parents help their children understand what happens and they teach them coping skills in healthy ways. And they comfort their children when they are upset and need safety and support. They encourage their children to explore their environment within safe boundaries, and they accept their children when they come back to them to share what they experienced, or when they need their parents. They have attention for the emotional needs of their children.
